What Students are Saying!

I am not the same person I was three years ago. I see people differently, I think differently, and I'd like to think that I made a difference in the world, even if it turns out only a tiny bit. We've had our hardships and our happiness, but after three years, I feel like my residents are part of my family. In many ways, because of what they taught me, there is no one I know better then them, even if all I ever learned was how little I know.

I liked the good feeling that comes from helping and not only doing something for yourself, but for others. I liked listening to the discussions that students had during class.

…it's a lot of fun. It doesn't feel like a class, which is a bonus. I don't look at the world the same way…if you had a choice between spending the time goofing off, or doing something important what would you do?

TELEM's Service Learning Hondurus Trip:

"The most meaningful aspect of the trip was the incredible joy we brought to the village, specifically to the children. From the moment we arrived at Julio Cesar Pinto, we were met with smiles. It was immediately clear that our help was appreciated. The kids were excited to get to know us and we immediately jumped into games of soccer and jump rope. Clearly the language barrier that many of us had with the kids was not going to prevent us from interacting with them.... Never before in my life had I had such a profound impact on so many people as I did on this trip. It is truly a unique feeling of fulfillment that I now feel that I believe can only come from bringing short-term and long-term hope into the lives of those who really needed it."
